Born in 1838 at Northfleet in Kent HENRY FLEETWOOD KEATS SHRAPNEL was the son of HENRY SQUIRES SHRAPNEL (1810 – 1865) and grandson of The General. His mother was Elizabeth Iggulden Mant, the second of his father’s three wives. Henry married Elizabeth Mountain in 1861 at Monmouth and spent the next 30 years in London where they raised their 10 children. Amongst these were ALICE ELIZABETH SHRAPNEL (1861 – 1938) and ARTHUR STANFORD FLEETWOOD SHRAPNEL (1866 – 1938) of whom there is only one descendant of the name today. However about 1890 Henry went to Canada and married Clara Jackson (it is not known what happened to Elizabeth). From this second marriage there were four children – PETER FLEETWOOD SHRAPNEL, WINIFRED, DOROTHY AND SUSAN. There are Shrapnel descendants of Peter today in USA and Australia whilst Winifred married into the Peglar family of whom there are many issue today. Henry died at Buffalo, USA in 1907.
